Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s niece has accused his brother of sexually harassing her when she was nine years old. Acording to report that appeared in the newsaper The Times Of India, she has filed a police complaint against him at Delhi’s Jamia police station. Siddiqui has eight siblings. It is not yet clear who among the eight has been accused.

Talking to the publication, she said, “I have filed a complaint about sexual harassment by my uncle when I was nine years old. My parents were divorced when I was two years old, so I had a step-mother. I was tortured a lot. As a child I didn’t understand thinking it was my uncle, but when I grew up I realized it was a different kind of touch. There was violence too.”

She also alleged that Siddiqui never took her seriously. “Bade papa (Siddiqui) once asked me what I want to do in life. I told him all that was happening with me and that I felt mentally disturbed. But he said there is nothing like that. I thought that at least bade papa would understand, he lives in a different society and would have a different mentality. But he was like ‘chacha hai, aisa kabhi nahi kar sakte’ [He is your uncle. He can never do such a thing.]

Meanwhile, the actor's brother Shamas Nawab Siddiqui has defended the family in a tweet where he wrote, "It clearly indicates the motive and the person behind publicising this fake things in media. Truth will be uncovered soonest."

Siddiqui was in the news recently as his wife Aaliya sent him a divorce notice. Last month, the actor took special permission to travel to his native Budhana in Uttar Pradesh with his family members to be with his mother who isn't keeping well. The family was tested for COVID-19 and they all tested negative.
