Adnan Sami, Alisha Chinai also speak out against music industry ‘mafia’

The singers called out the 'mafia' for stifling creativity and controlling artistes in the name of music.

Following Sonu Nigam’s comments about a controlling music industry and tormented young artistes who may be forced to turn to suicide, singer-composer Adnan Sami has spoken up about the music industry ‘mafia’.

In a lengthy Instagram post, Sami stressed that both the film and music industries need a ‘Herculean’ shake-up. He went on to say that new as well as veteran singers, composers and producers are routinely exploited in the industry.

The Indian Film & Music Industry SERIOUSLY needs a ‘Herculean‘ SHAKE UP. Especially in the context of music, New Singers, Veteran Singers, Music Composers & Music Producers - who are being exploited to the HILT!! “Fall into the DICTAT or you’re OUT”... Why is creativity beyond “CONTROLLED” by those you have no clue about ‘creativity’ & are trying to play GOD?? We have 1.3 Billion people in India by the grace of God- Is all that we have to offer is ‘remakes’ & ‘remixes’? For God sake, STOP THIS & allow the truly talented new & veteran artistes BREATH & give you creative peace Musically & Cinematically!!! Have you, the Movie & Music ‘Mafia’ who have arrogantly entitled yourselves as the ‘self professed & self appointed gods‘ not learned anything from history that you can NEVER control art & the ecosystem of creativity of any field? ENOUGH!! MOVE OVER!! “CHANGE” is here & it’s knocking on your door!! Ready or Not, it‘s coming in! Brace yourselves! As Abraham Lincoln said - “You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time!!”

Sami pointed to the music industry’s fixation with remakes and remixes and asked that both newcomers and veterans be given the creative space to make music. “Have you, the movie & music ‘mafia’ who have arrogantly entitled yourselves as the ‘self professed & self appointed gods‘ not learned anything from history that you can NEVER control art & the ecosystem of creativity of any field (sic)?” he went on to ask.

He ended his post proclaiming “change” is here and everyone should brace for it.

Fellow singer Alisha Chinai shared Sami’s post and wrote that the music industry has become a toxic place. “The movie and music mafia try to control you with fear and power. There is zero work ethic and no fair play. It’s all just a damn sham and a damn rip-off with fraudulent contracts and then acting like it’s a big favour,” she said.

“Please learn to revere and respect the artiste that feeds you,” Chinai said. “If you don’t kiss ass and massage their misplaced, insecure egos, they will boycott you and try to fuck you over... the whole system sucks!”

Chinai, too, predicted that change is on the way for the industry.
