Indian film Kriya selected for the competition section of Fantasia Film Festival 2020

The Fantasia International Film Festival, which will be celebrating its 24th edition as a virtual event, has announced its llineup for this year. Indian filmmaker Sidharth Srinivasan's Kriya has been selected in the festival's competition section.

 The festival, which will held from 20 August until 2 September 2020, will open with a special screening of Neil Marshall’s The Reckoning, a poignant and horrific period thriller set in 1665 against the backdrop of the Great Plague and the subsequent witch hunts in England. 

Srinivasan's Kriya is a horror film tells the story of a man who encounters a beautiful woman at a club. As he follows her home, he finds himself thrust into a nightmare odyssey of ritual magic, patriarchal death customs, and unusual family conflict. The film stars Navjot Randhawa and Avantika Akerkar in the lead roles.

Though the film was shot entirely in Ghaziabad during the winter of 2018, the post-production was done in a London studio by Pete Tombs and Andy Starke. Tombs and Starke have also produced and directed a BBC documentary series called Eurotika! (1999) on horror films.

Produced by BS Narayanaswamy, Tejas Shah of Accord Equips and Srinivasan, the film is likely to be an unique entry at Fantasia, a predominantly fantasy/action/horror festival. However, the festival has always embraced films whose sheer individuality puts them in a genre of their own.
