Sona Mohapatra's ‘Tori Surat’ unplugged is an ode to togetherness during the lockdown

The song, which is part of her music video called 'Portraits Of Quarantine', is dedicated to all those who have supported the singer through the COVID-19 lockdown.

Ahead of World Music Day, which will be celebrated on 21 June, singer Sona Mohapatra has come up with a music video called 'Portraits Of Quarantine'. It is dedicated to all those who have helped her go through this difficult period of the COVID-19 lockdown. It also carries a message about everybody needing someone who can remind them of their own value, beauty and strength.

The video will see Mohapatra sing an unplugged version of the song ‘Tori Surat,’ written by the famous 13th century Sufi poet Amir Khusro. The music has been composed by Ram Sampath. The video will also feature an album of her extended family members and people close to her. Both the video and the song have been produced while adhering to lockdown norms.

Speaking about the initiative, the singer said in an official statement, “We don’t have to have mental illness to experience psychological issues during COVID-19. To cope, everyone needs connection and compassion. If we are lucky, we have shared this quarantine period with someone who provides that support, be it by being physically around or even available virtually. This music video is an ode to that. World Music Day is around the corner and is a wonderful occasion that lets my whole team come together virtually to do what we do best; perform music that not only entertains people but also uplifts their soul.”

Talking about why she believes in this initiative, Mohapatra said, “Today when I look back, I feel it is important for us to cherish & celebrate our support systems; the ones we share our lockdown and homes with. Portraits of Quarantine celebrates that thought. ‘Tori Surat’ is timeless poetry by a Sufi master and I hope my relationship and love with my band and team also endures similarly."
