Originally, actor Jitendra Kumar was due to make his film debut as a lead with Chaman Bahaar (2020). The actor has since been seen in Gone Kesh (2019) and Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan (2020), and starred in the Amazon Prime web-series Panchayat. The long-delayed Chaman Bahaar, written and directed by Apurva Dhar Badgaiyann, finally makes its way to Netflix this week.
The brief teaser introduces us to the small-town world set in Chattisgarh, where Jitendra plays Billu, a paan shop owner who attracts all the young men in town when a young woman Rinku (Ritika Badiani) and her family move in across the road from him. Billu, who has fallen for Rinku himself, has to compete now with the rest of the world, it seems, for her affections.
The teaser’s voiceover features a conversation that discusses the numerous admirers of a princess. While one of the voices insists the admirers have become soft watching Shah Rukh Khan’s films, the other insists that eventually it will be a prince who will walk away with her hand. Will it be Jitendra Kumar’s Billu who will be the lucky one?
The unrequited romance, which also stars Bhuvan Arora, Alam Khan, Ashwani Kumar, and Dherendra Kumar Tiwari, is due to begin streaming on 19 June on Netflix.
