The main cast of BR Chopra’s classic television serial Mahabharat will be reuniting on RJ Anmol’s chat show Reunion with RJ Anmol. This is the first episode of the show which will be available to see live on Facebook tomorrow, 17 June.
The TV series first aired in 1988. But the serial has been trending these past few months after it was re-telecast during the start of the lockdown, allowing a new generation to become familiar with it.
The guests from Mahabharat who would be present on the reunion show include Gajendra Chauhan (Yudhisthir), Firoz Khan (Arjun), Puneet Issar (Duryodhan), Roopa Ganguly (Draupadi), Mukesh Khanna (Bheeshma) and Gufi Paintal (Shakuni).
The cast recorded the show from their homes in April because of the COVID-19 lockdown. They shared interesting stories about the casting. For example, actors Govinda and Chunky Pandey had earlier auditioned for the role of Abhimanyu while Juhi Chawla was auditioned for Draupadi.
The teaser of the episode reveals how Puneet Issar and Mukesh Khanna bagged the roles of Duryodhan and Bheeshma after some twists and turns.
Speaking about the show and the episode, RJ Anmol said in an official statement, “The idea was to get the cast together to revisit the memories attached with the shows. Most of us have grown up watching these shows and thanks to the re-telecast, a lot of youngsters have seen these shows as well. It was exciting to get the cast together and see them reveal some fun stuff while being nostalgic. Since we shot few episodes during the lockdown, the show’s format right now is of a video conference.”
Update: The first episode of ReUnion with RJ Anmol with the Mahabharat cast was delayed and now will be live on Facebook on Wednesday, 24 June, at 7 pm.
