Mumbai police to probe professional rivalry angle in Sushant Singh Rajput’s death

The Mumbai police have confirmed that there was no foul play in the suicide of Sushant Singh Rajput, who died on Sunday 14 June.

Abhishek Trimukhe, deputy commissioner of police in charge of Zone IX, within which lies Bandra, where Rajput lived, told The Times of India newspaper, “A team of three doctors [at the RN Cooper hospital] conducted Rajput’s autopsy and the provisional cause of death is asphyxia due to hanging.”

But there have been media reports about Rajput having been driven to desperation after being ignored by major production houses. Social media has also been buzzing with such discussion ever since news of his death emerged.

Taking all this into consideration, Maharashtra’s home minister Anil Deshmukh announced that the police would investigate this angle. 'While the post-mortem report says actor Sushant Singh Rajput committed suicide by hanging himself, there are media reports that he allegedly suffered from clinical depression because of professional rivalry. The Mumbai police will probe this angle,' Deshmukh tweeted.

An officer from the Bandra police station also ruled out the possibility of Rajput facing a financial crunch. “Rajput’s sister said she frequently visited his flat and stayed over," the officer told the newspaper. "She had gone to her Goregaon home only a few days ago. She said he had no financial problems but he was undergoing treatment for depression for the past six months.”

Rajput was found hanging at his Bandra residence on 14 June. No suicide note has been found yet.
