The gang wars and crimes of rural and urban North India have received a lot of attention in films and web-series as well. A recent instance being, the acclaimed web-series Paatal Lok. The focus shifts to the dark underbelly of West Bengal in Zee5's new crime series, Lalbazaar.
The teaser of the series, which will stream on the OTT platform from 19 June, is an unapologetic glimpse of what to expect from the show. The entire footage is a collage of clips of a large number of disturbing crimes, including the one committed by a teenager. We can see cops too trying to solve the cases with determination.
It is difficult to make out the story of Lalbazaar from the teaser. It seems the makers have intentionally decided to keep the story under wraps for now. We get to see actors like Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Kaushik Sen, Hrishitaa Bhatt and others, but only in fleeting appearances. However, one cannot help but notice the impressive production design and cinematography.
The one thing that binds the entire teaser together is the background narration by Ajay Devgn. The actor makes his presence felt just through his powerful and intense voice.
Lalbazaar sees director Sayantan Ghosal make his first Hindi web-series. He has made a handful of Bengali films before this.
