Axone trailer: A group of friends prepare a dish that's worth the wait

Read in: Hindi

Written and directed by Nicholas Kharkongor, the film describes an atypical day in the life of a close-knit group of friends in Delhi.

A group of friends, a wedding celebration and a traditional dish. What could go wrong? Well, everything does in Nicholas Kharkongor’s Axone.

Chanbi (Lin Laishram) and Upasna (Sayani Gupta) decide to make the traditional axone (pronounced akuni) for their friend Minam’s wedding celebration. The stew, which is made from fermented soyabean, is pungent and requires much effort to prepare. Living in a rented house with suspicion all around them, the group of friends has to really rally to make sure it has something edible in time for the party.

Kharkongor’s film shows the comedy in trying to arrange for a place where they can safely cook and, most importantly, addresses the different levels of casual racism that those from the Northeast have to endure daily.

Netflix will stream Axone, also starring Vinay Pathak, Tenzin Dalha, Rohan Joshi and Adil Hussain, from 12 June.
