A court in Bihar today rejected a petition accusing a number of Hindi film personalities of abetment of actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide last month.

Advocate Sudhir Kumar Jha had made the accusation against a list that included filmmaker Karan Johar, actor Salman Khan, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and producer Ekta Kapoor.

The petition was dismissed by chief judicial magistrate (CJM) Mukesh Kumar who felt the matter was beyond the court's jurisdiction.

According to a report by the Press Trust of India news agency, Jha had listed outspoken actress-director Kangana Ranaut as one of his witnesses in the case.

After Rajput ended his life, Ranaut had released a video in which she had blamed a section of the Hindi film industry of driving him to desperation.

The advocate, however, appeared to be in no mood to give up. Speaking to reporters after the hearing, he said, “I will challenge the CJM’s decision before the district court. Bihar is in pain over the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. We must act to bring those who drove a jovial young man like him to take such an extreme step to justice.”

Since Rajput’s death, some netizens have been carrying out a hateful campaign on social media against personalities like Johar, Khan and Kapoor for their supposed role in the suicide and against others like Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan for being the supposed beneficiaries of nepotism in cinema.
