Kambli, a veteran of the stage, had also acted in some landmark Marathi films like Singhasan (1979) and Shwaas (2004).

Veteran actor and theatre director Liladhar Kambli died yesterday in Mumbai after battling cancer for over two years. He was 83.
Kambli, who began his career in theatre, has worked in more than 30 plays, including Himalayachi Savali (Shadow Of The Himalayas), Kachecha Chandra (Glass Moon), Kasturi Mrug (Musk Deer), Prema Tuzha Rang Kasa (Colours Of Love), Shortcut, Dubhang (Split), Lekure Udandh Zhali (Overwhelmed By Kids), Vastraharan (The Disrobing) and Vaatrat Mele (Rascals).
He also did an English play titled Funny Thing Called Play, which went on to do more than 200 shows, a rarity for English theatre.
Apart from plays, Kambli acted in some critically acclaimed films like Jabbar Patel's Singhasan (1979), Sandeep Sawant's Shwaas (2004) and Mahesh Tillekar's One Room Kitchen (2011).
Kambli received the Maharashtra state government's Natavarya Prabhakar Panshikar Lifetime Achievement award for his contribution to Marathi theatre.
Kambli is survived by his wife, three daughters and grandchildren.
