Film artistes Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Ali Fazal, Dia Mirza, Vir Das and Richa Chadha, amongst others, came together to send out 20,000+ PPE (personal protection equipment) kits to over 50 hospitals across the country for frontline health workers who are battling the COVID-19 pandemic.

The initiative started by photographer Atul Kasbekar in association with Tring India was inspired by producer Manish Mundra's decision to donate PPE kits to health workers.

Hailing health workers for their sacrifices in this difficult time, Kasbekar shared a video in which Vidya, Sinha, Mirza, cricketer Harbhajan Singh and commentator Harsha Bhogle expressed their gratitude for their relentless work.

The team sent out the PPE kits to over 50 hospitals across the country to ensure that their staff are equipped with protective gear at all times.

“While all of us are safe at home under lockdown, it’s important that we celebrate them today and value them for the incredible and strenuous work they have been putting in for over 100 days now," Kasbekar said in his press statement.

"Our entire perception of heroism has altered in these times. When we started the initiative, it was the need of the hour. While government officials are doing their best, it is also the duty of citizens to step up in whatever way they can. A bunch of us came together and Manish [Mundra] has been a big help through the process, guiding us to those in need.”
