Actor-singer Gippy Grewal has thanked Punjab's chief minister Amarinder Singh and his administration on behalf of the film industry for allowing shooting to resume for films and music videos.

Earlier this week, a delegation comprising Grewal and actors Gurpreet Ghuggi and Ranjit Bawa had called on the state's chief secretary Vini Mahajan to urge the government to put guidelines in place and allow film shoots to resume.

Amarinder Singh had joined the meeting through video-conferencing and assured the team that he would look into their demands.

Acting swiftly thereafter, the department of home affairs and justice issued a set of guidelines and granted permission for the “shooting of films/music videos during Unlock-2 period”.

The circular lists the conditions that need to be followed by those seeking permission for shoots. Allowing not more than 50 people on the sets, ensuring physical distancing and regular use of sanitizers are among the conditions.

Across the world, the entertainment industry has been reeling from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and trying to figure out ways to resume shooting while keeping the safety of all artists and technicians in mind.

The decision of the Punjab government is sure to come as a relief for the Punjabi music and film industries.
