Shakuntala Devi song ‘Rani Hindustani’: Sunidhi Chauhan sets the mood for a rollicking track

The breezy number, composed by Sachin-Jigar, shows Vidya Balan’s genius mathematician undergoing a transformation in England.

The feisty Shakuntala Devi, who is studying abroad in UK, has to take on both diction and etiquette lessons as is evident from the opening scene before the song ‘Rani Hindustani’. Vidya Balan, who plays the genius mathematician in Shakuntala Devi (2020), sits with her British tutor as they both fire back tongue twisters.

The ever-ready Shankuntala doesn’t miss a beat. She endures lessons about tea, reading, dancing before eventually deciding to do things her way. The song demonstrates how Shakuntala Devi is transformed from a young girl to a confident woman.

The breezy number, composed by Sachin-Jigar, has a fast pace and the young Shakuntala Devi adapts quickly to her new surroundings and wins over the hearts of everyone around her. The lyrics by Vayu show how Shakuntala makes the circumstances work for her, instead of the other way around.

Sunidhi Chauhan, once again after ‘Pass Nahi Toh Fail Nahi’, sets the mood quickly to demonstrate how Shakuntala becomes the ‘Rani Hindustani’. The track, which is arranged by Mikey McCleary, bears more of a stamp from the songwriter-composer, than the composers Sachin-Jigar.

The film, directed by Anu Menon, is due to released on Amazon Prime on 31 July.
