Prosenjit Chatterjee and Jaya Ahsan are being paired again, this time for Indraadip Dasgupta’s upcoming film Asatoma Sadgamaya, set in the COVID-19 pandemic.

The artistes were previously cast opposite each other in Atanu Ghosh’s Robibaar (2019).

Asatoma Sadgamaya will also feature Rudranil Ghosh and Arun Mukhopadhyay in important roles.

Though the film has five characters in all, Dasgupta said he did not consciously think of physical distancing while conceiving the script. However, he added that it would be easier for him to shoot with fewer cast members, given the new safety guidelines.

“The film shows how the pandemic has become part of our psyche, affecting our overall behaviour," the music composer and director told The Times of India newspaper. "Though COVID-19 is the backdrop, the film is not entirely on the pandemic.

“The initial talks with ID are over," Prosenjit said, speaking of the film. "I like the concept and will go through the script soon. What I like about him is the sensitivity with which he tells his stories through a broad canvas, which is cinema. I am keeping my fingers crossed till the next step.”

Ahsan, on the other hand, is waiting for flight services to resume so that she can fly to Kolkata and start shooting. “When the director narrated the story, we could instantly relate to it," the Bangladeshi actress said. "All of us are facing psychological challenges in the wake of the pandemic. I am so looking forward to the film.”

Dasgupta will start working on the music of the film at the end of September. The film will be shot by Subhankar Bhar.
