MAMI ties up with MUBI to showcase a film a month

The collaboration starts with Sanal Kumar Sasidharan’s film S Durga (2018), which will be available free for 24 hours for members of the MAMI Year Round Programme.

The Mumbai Academy of the Moving Image (MAMI) will tie up with the curated streaming service MUBI India to bring a special preview of one film a month exclusively for members of MAMI's popular Year Round Programme.

Sanal Kumar Sasidharan’s multiple award-winning film S Durga (2018) will be the first film to be shown as part of the new collaboration and will be available for viewing on 23 July.

Although the MAMI Year Round Programme has been organizing screenings, masterclasses and panel discussions, during the current pandemic it has offered certain films for viewing for its members and also organized conversations with film practitioners as part of a knowledge series.

Smriti Kiran, artistic director, MAMI, said, “MUBI has a fantastic slate of films. A lot of their Indian titles have begun their journey at MAMI. At heart, MAMI and MUBI are connected. It was too tempting an opportunity to pass up. Thrilled that we are partnering with them to put the spotlight on one title a month out of their diverse and dense library.”

Speaking about the tie-up, Svetlana Naudiyal, director of content, MUBI India, said, “We are really excited that MAMI and MUBI have come together to create this first-of-its-kind partnership in India, through which we will be able to extend MUBI’s hand-picked films to MAMI Year Round Programme members. There is an inherent philosophical synergy in our visions towards bringing the best of films from around the world to audiences in India, and as we navigate these challenging times, collaboration in our industry is now more important than ever to create new avenues for audience participation.”

The members of the MAMI Year Round Programme will be able to watch S Durga free on MUBI for 24 hours on 23 July, a day before MUBI India officially starts streaming it on its platform.
