The minute Vidya Balan's Shakuntala Devi walks into the classroom, the mood in the room instantly changes. The genius mathematician is so excited to talk about her favourite subject, she is practically bursting.
In the first song from the upcoming biopic, Shakuntala Devi (2020), Vidya introduces a new, fun way to think about maths to the assembled schoolchildren. The actress's mood is infectious and pretty soon, the children are dancing to her tune.
Lyricist Vayu takes a motivational approach to the song titled 'Pass Nahi Toh Fail Nahi', incorporating phrases like 'tension mat le yaar' and 'yeh class hai, koi jail nahi' to make the schoolchildren approach the subject with fun, not dread.
While Sachin-Jigar's composition is spirited, it remains boxed in a repetitive yet jubilant track. The talented composers could have added some more pizazz to the song. Singer Sunidhi Chauhan perks up the track with her animated rendition, which suits Vidya’s mood to a T.
Directed by Anu Menon, the biopic will stream on Amazon Prime Video from 31 July. Besides Vidya, the film also stars Sanya Malhotra, Amit Sadh and Jisshu Sengupta as Shakuntala Devi’s husband.
