The film was launched on 14 January this year by the filmmaker to coincide with the birth centenary of his father, late poet Kaifi Azmi. The story of Mee Raqsam revolves around conversations between a father and his daughter.
While Hussain is expected to play the role of the father, the role of the daughter will be played by 14-year-old Aditi Sharma, from the late poet's hometown Mizwan, Uttar Pradesh. The film has also been entirely shot in Mizwan.
The story will follow the journey of the young girl, who is encouraged by her father to follow her dream of being a classical dancer, against the wishes of a conservative society.
The poster of the film also defines this tale clearly. The young girl's Bharatnatyam pose marks the focal point of the poster, with Hussain's father and Naseeruddin Shah's character standing on diametrically opposite sides.
