On the seventh anniversary of his debut film, Ship Of Theseus (2013), Anand Gandhi has announced his second directorial venture with Emergence.
The filmmaker had been researching the film for the past five years and finally unveiled the concept art for it.
“I started working on an existential risk script with a focus on pandemics in 2015," Gandhi tweeted. "After five years of intensive research and scripting, sharing our first concept art as we begin the casting process.”

The film’s announcement, coming at a time when the world is dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, is intriguing. The striking concept poster features a fractured, changed world with explosions, melting glaciers and tidal waves. The two humans on the poster are a scientist in a protective suit and another man in quiet contemplation. There also seems to be a medical facility under a dome.
The film is currently in the casting stage. Gandhi's award-winning Ship Of Theseus featured actors Neeraj Kabi and Sohum Shah. Since then, Gandhi has co-founded Memesys Culture Lab which backs high-concept, experimental cinema, including virtual reality.
He also produced the documentary An Insignificant Man (2017) on Aam Aadmi Party founder and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, wrote the film Helicopter Eela (2018) starring Kajol, and was the executive producer on Tumbbad (2018), featuring Sohum Shah.
