Filmmaker Manish Vatsalya is set to direct a new web-series, tentatively titled Hanak, on the life of slain gangster Vikas Dubey.
Dubey, who had more than 60 criminal cases against him, was killed by the Uttar Pradesh police last week.
The police, who had taken Dubey into custody from Madhya Pradesh and were taking him back to Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh to be produced in court, claimed that the vehicle in which they were travelling overturned and Dubey grabbed a firearm from a policeman and tried to escape by shooting his captors.
Explaining why he decided to take up this project, Vatsalya told the IANS news agency, "Vikas Dubey epitomizes the vice of human existence. What drew me to this character is the flaws that define an entity and how they can be picturized to inculcate virtues in our society,"
The web-series will be produced by Aditya Kashyap and Awadhesh Tiwari. The makers are yet to decide on the cast and crew, but Vatsalya said that "once the details fall into their logical places, the actors who fit the bill will be approached." The director said viewers will see "the masters of their craft" in the web-series.
Hanak is being written by Mridul Kapil and Subodh Pandey.
