While the entire country is grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic, the Northeast region and Bihar have been hit by severe flooding. More than 36 lakh people have been affected in in the current wave of floods in Assam and Bihar. YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani has donated Rs1 lakh each to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund of these two states.
In his statement to the media, Chanchlani said, "While the entire country is fighting against the pandemic, it is heartbreaking to see the people of Assam and Bihar getting affected by another disaster. The floods have wrecked villages and affected so many lives adding to their misery. I thought maybe this small contribution from my side can help at least some people in these states and maybe more people will come forward and pay attention to the floods in Assam and Bihar."
Currently, flood water has damaged rural roads, embankments, bridges, and crop areas. Around 36,000 people are taking shelter at temporary relief camps. More than 66 people from Assam have lost their lives so far due to floods.
Relief and rescue operations are being carried out by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
