Actor, director Parambrata Chatterjee resumed shooting for his upcoming film Abhijaan (2020), a biopic of veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee, on 14 July. The shooting of the film had been called off on 17 March due to the lockdown. But after the new safety guidelines issued by Eastern India Motion Picture Association and the Federation of Cine Technicians and Workers of Eastern India, the Bengali film and television industry has resumed work.
Soumitra, who is 85-years-old, braved the risk posed by COVID-19 to those above the age of 65 and reported back to the sets, determined to complete the three days of shoot that was remaining. Jisshu Sengupta, who plays the young Soumitra in the film, has also resumed shooting for the film along with Debaprasad Halder at a studio at Jodhpur Park and Tapan Theatre in Kolkata.
The film also features Paoli Dam as the late Suchitra Sen, while filmmaker Qaushiq Mukherjee, alsso know as Q, will be seen in the role of Satyajit Ray. Sohini Sarkar will play Madhabi Mukhopadhyay, the actress who was Soumitra's co-star in many films.
