The rest of the cast for the Hindi remake and its title is yet to be announced.
The original film starred Vishwaksen Naidu and Ruhani Sharma. Hit saw Sen play an officer in the Homicide Intervention Team, hence, the title. Sharma played his colleague and love interest. The film also starred Chaitanya Sagiraju, who played Sen’s friend and colleague, who accompanies him in most of his cases.
Speaking about the film and the lead character, Kolanu said in an official statement, "The first case of HIT tells the story of a police officer who is constantly fighting a battle with his past and his present. So it's a troubled character. I wanted to cast someone who could bring that darkness to the role and still make the audience root for him with a matured performance."
On the reason why he signed Rao, Kolanu said, "I felt Raj can evoke that kind of a response. I have been following Rajkummar's work ever since I watched Shaitaan. He is a terrific actor and has managed to surprise us everytime with his performance. I am really excited to be working with Rajkummar Rao and Dil Raju sir on this project."
Rao is also excited to be part of the film. "When I saw Hit, I instantly connected with it. It's an engaging story, relevant in today's environment. As an actor I am always looking out to play characters I haven’t explored and Hit gives me a chance to do that. I'm looking forward to take this journey with Sailesh and Dil Raju," he said in an official statement.
Rao’s next film in the pipeline is Chhalaang (2020). Directed by Hansal Mehta, the film will also star Nushrat Bharucha. The film will also mark the fifth collaboration between Rao and Mehta after Shahid (2013), Citylights (2014), Aligarh (2016) and Omerta (2018).
