Pakistani short film Darling wins Satyajit Ray award at London Indian Film Festival


Indian filmmaker Aarti Neharsh’s short film Song We Sang was singled out for a special mention.

Pakistani filmmaker Saim Sadiq’s short film Darling won the Satyajit Ray award for Best Short Film at the 11th London Indian Film Festival (LIFF).

Supported by the Bagri Foundation and the British Film Institute, the festival was held online this time, from 25 June to 7 July, because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The awards were put out by LIFF’s official Twitter handle recently.

Indian filmmaker Aarti Neharsh’s short film Song We Sang was chosen for a special mention. Veteran filmmaker Deepa Mehta and actress Shabana Azmi were selected for the Icon Achievement awards. Actor Adil Hussain and  actresses Vidya Balan and Freida Pinto were chosen for the Outstanding Achievement awards.

Delighted to receive the honour, Adil Hussain tweeted that he was 'very honoured' to have been chosen for the Outstanding Achievement award and expressed his gratitude.

Mira Nair’s Mississippi Masala (1991) got the Audience Favourite award for being the most watched film on LIFF’s online platform. The film starred Denzel Washington and Sarita Choudhury.
