A day after veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan and son Abhishek announced that they had tested positive for COVID-19, actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and her daughter Aaradhya also tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

While the father and son remain at Nanavati hospital, where they were admitted yesterday evening, Aishwarya and her eight-year-old daughter will remain quarantined at home.

Abhishek confirmed that his wife and daughter had tested positive for the virus and updated everyone about the Bachchan family's status on Twitter this evening. His mother Jaya and the rest of the family has tested negative, he said and thanked everyone for their wishes and prayers.

Abhishek added that he and his father will remain in hospital until it is safe for them to be discharged. Both were experiencing mild symptoms yesterday.

The actor, whose Amazon Prime web-series Breathe: Into The Shadows, was premiered on Friday, urged everyone to be cautious and safe during the pandemic. Reportedly, Abhishek had been stepping out for some dubbing work after the easing of the lockdown rules last month.

Aishwarya, meanwhile, is part of Mani Ratnam's multi-starrer Ponniyin Selvan (2021). The Tamil historical film, like many other films in the Indian movie industries, has been on hold since the country went into a lockdown in March. The adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's novel also stars Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi and Trisha.
