The long-awaited title track of Dil Bechara (2020), directed by Mukesh Chhabra, is a smooth and mellow listen, thanks to composer AR Rahman. The music maestro also takes on the singing duties on this track, adding his soft but emphatic flair to the song.
The late actor, Sushant Singh Rajput, remains front and centre in this one-take number choreographed by Farah Khan. He takes the spotlight, literally, as he first performs on stage and later mingles in the audience, especially with Kizie, played by newcomer Sanjana Sanghi.
Rajput is charming throughout the number, as he interacts with his fellow students and friends, before returning to the stage for his performance. The lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya incorporate modern terms like ‘friendzone’ and ‘like’, making it a must-listen for the school and college crowd.
Khan's choreography for the one-take number is not showy, eschewing many background dancers, and flows with Rahman's tune. The result is a smooth and catchy picturisation inside a theatre.
Chhabra's directorial debut is due to be begin streaming on 24 July on Disney+ Hotstar for both subscribers and non-subscribers.
