After the first teaser, the makers of Mafia (2020) have released the first official trailer of the show. Apart from introducing a new character played by Namit Das, it does not give any additional information about the plot of the show. A reunion party of college friends, a secluded bungalow, and a seemingly innocent game, which turns deadly. We have seen this template innumerable times in international and Indian films. Zee5's Mafia uses the same plot.
The teaser showed us how six friends, played by Das, Ishaa Saha, Tanmay Dhanania, Anindita Bose, Ridhima Ghosh and Madhurima Roy have a reunion party in a bungalow in the jungles of Madhupur. The trailer shows how they play a game called Mafia, which starts innocently, but then takes a sinister turn. It forces them to dig into the past and reveal their dirty secrets. And we soon wonder whether they are friends or enemies?
Due to its short length, the trailer manages to keep things vague. Das plays a stranger who has lost his way. His character piques your interest especially because the trailer doesn't give you any information about his character. He seems to play a character who knows a lot but is pretending to be completely innocent.
Mafia is Bengali filmmaker Birsa Dasgupta's first Hindi project. The web-series will stream on Zee5 from 10 July.
