Mainak Bhaumik moves from rom-coms to splits with Break-up Story on Hoichoi this month

Featuring Sohini Sarkar, Sauraseni Maitra, Tuhina Das, Saurav Das and Aryann Bhowmick, the five-part series will feature five break-up stories.

Mainak Bhaumik’s upcoming series, Break-up Story is set to stream on Hoichoi this month. Featuring an ensemble cast conisting of Sohini Sarkar, Anindita Bose, Sauraseni Maitra, Tuhina Das, Alivia Sarkar, Chandreyee Ghosh, Saurav Das, Ronojoy Bishnu and Aryann Bhowmick, the series narrates tales of parting, and not all of them conventional..

According to a report by the daily, The Telegraph, for the past four years, Bhaumik has been hooked to making series instead of films. “I find, as a writer, the series format allows more breathing space to dwell on the characters and try out different kinds of stories and you’re not stuck to a weekend result for the fate of your work. So for a long time I’ve been wanting to jump onto the OTT (over-the-top_ wagon and the Break-up Story was the best short series. I guess, the Break-up Story is my humble and rusty (read debut) try at a format I have been binging on for years now,” explained the filmmaker, better known for his rom-coms.

However, this time, the director, known for telling stories which have ‘happily ever-after’ endings, will turn them into unhappily-ever-after tales. The series consists of five episodes about five break-ups.

“Over the last few years, I’ve been fascinated by the different kinds of break-ups I have been hearing about and not all are random like, ‘We need to part because it didn’t work out’. It can be a meet-cute break-up of a long relationship fading or a break-up from hell. Even the growing bond between two roommates when they have to part is sort of a break-up. The idea was to try and show different kinds of break-ups, which are all connected to each other,” added the director of Bedroom (2012)Maach Mishti & More (2013), Happy Pill (2018) and Bornoporichoy (2019), among others.
