While the new year’s films bring us some never-before pairs with the Coolie No 1 (1995) remake and Khaali Peeli (2020), it seems as if fans are keen to see Deepika Padukone act in a film with Kartik Aaryan.
Padukone had taken up the Dheeme Dheeme challenge during the promotions of Aaryan’s Pati Patni Aur Woh (2019) and had a lively interaction during the Star Screen awards ceremony as well.
Just last week, the actor took to Instagram Stories to post a picture of himself next to Padukone with the question, ‘Hai kisi director mein dum? [Does any director dare]?’

The stars then had a little back-and-forth with dialogues from Padukone’s debut film Om Shanti Om (2007). Padukone questioned Aaryan's choice of photographs and Aaryan replied, “Kyunki tabse qainaat iss koshish mein lagi hai [Because that's when the universe began conspiring to cast us together]”.

During media interactions for this week’s release, Chhapaak (2020), Padukone was asked whether the banter indicated that a film starring the two was in the works.
“No, I’m not doing any film. That was just like Instagram banter,” she said. “But I would like to say, in the current lot of youngsters, I really like his energy.”
She compared Aaryan to her husband Ranveer Singh and herself and felt that they all came from the same mindset.
“We don’t come with any kind of backing, family connection, nothing, zero. So to just come out of nowhere and to understand a business like the film industry, where in our country every second, third person wants to be an actor, and everybody does not get that opportunity,” she said.
Of the chosen few who get the golden opportunity, Aaryan has made the most of his chances.
“I see sincerity, I see hard work, and what I appreciate the most is that he is not apologetic about it. He will do whatever it takes to be successful. Woh jo dikhta hai, woh wohi hai [What you see is what you get with him],” Padukone added, hoping that she would get the opportunity to work with him.
After Chhapaak, Padukone is slated to work with another young actor, Siddhant Chaturvedi, in Shakun Batra’s next project. Filming is expected to begin in March.
