Madras high court stays Malaysia release of Rajinikanth's Darbar

Malaysian fans of superstar Rajinikanth will have to hold their breath a while to watch their favourite in AR Murugadoss's upcoming action film Darbar.

The Madras high court issued an interim injunction on the film's release in Malaysia until a bank guarantee of Rs4.90 crore is offered by the producers.

Justice Jayachandran heard the case on Tuesday after the producers were accused by a Malaysian production house, DMY Creations, of owing it Rs23.70 crore in outstanding dues.

TheNewsMinute.com website reported that the judge ordered a stay on the Malaysian release of the film. The ruling will not have any impact on the India release of the film scheduled for Thursday 9 January, or in other parts of the world.

DMY Creations had alleged that Lyca Productions owes it Rs23.70 crore in repayment of a loan taken during the making of Rajinikanth's 2.0 (2018).

In a countersuit filed on 3 January, Lyca claimed that DMY Creations had to pay it Rs1.90 crore for distributing 2.0 (2018), Vada Chennai (2018), Maari 2 (2018) and Vantha Rajavathaan Varuven (2019), all Lyca productions.

Darbar, starring Rajinikanth and Nayanthara and directed by AR Murugadoss, is set for release in India on 9 January.
