The sight of a raging Suriya launching into a hands-on attack on a typical government babu standing in the way of his dreams is quite the sight. The trailer of Soorarai Pottru (2020) captures the actor playing a small town aviation entrepreneur. The film, directed by Sudha Kongara, is based on the life and journey of GR Gopinath, founder of Air Deccan, and will release in theatres in April this year.
The trailer begins with the voiceover, by Suriya, describing the vilification from others when he sets out to build his own airline. The trailer soon cuts to the ambitious entrepreneur trying to carve his way through a stagnant and immovable bureaucracy. The montage of his struggle, frustration, and determination make for a very interesting look.
The trailer also features snippets of actress Aparna Balamurali as the love interest of the actor. With its interesting story of an aviation entrepreneur rising against the big powers of the Tatas and Air India, Soorarai Pottru is definitely another step in the direction as NGK (2019).
The film has action sequences by Greg Powell (The Bourne Ultimatum 2007, Skyfall 2012), which shows in the short snippets of intense emotional highs in the trailer.
Soorarai Pottru is reportedly based on captain GR Gopinath, who established India's first low-cost airlines, Air Deccan. The trailer offers an insight into it in the last moments with the announcement declaring 'Deccan Airways flight is ready for take-off'.
The film will also feature Mahanati (2018) actor Mohan Babu as the antagonist, with Paresh Rawal as well in a key role.
Soorarai Pottru is set to release in April 2020. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
