Pattas trailer: Dhanush returns to action mould with some punch

Dhanush has been riding the wave of some serious movies in recent years, but seems eager to return to the action-comedy zone that fuelled his rise to stardom. The trailer of RS Durai Senthil Kumar's Pattas captures the duality of his recent maturity and the vibrant energy from his early years. The film is set to release in theatres on 16 January, and will also feature Sneha, Mehreen Pirzada, Naveen Chandra and Nasser.
The trailer begins with the familiar sight of a bearded Dhanush training young kids in the ancient art of Adimurai, a Tamil martial art form. The trailer traces the initial journey of the older Dhanush, following the footsteps of his own mentor (or father?) played by Nasser. 'It is important to give this to your next generation," he says in the voiceover.
This next-generation, though, begins its life in the city. The sight of a younger, a little more comic Dhanush takes to the street. He comes across as a young man unaware of his father's past, the history, and just keeps selling the medals and trophies. The transformation occurs when he is forced to fight with Navin Chandra's kickboxing coach, who already has a past history with his father. Therein lies the conflict of the trailer.
With Sneha playing the love interest for the father, and Mehreen Pirzada for the younger version, it feels like the film will have a touch of romance too.
Packed with enough comic moments, style, and action to get the fans going, Pattas might be a nice change of pace from the recent Asuran (2019) for the actor.
