Malang, starring Aditya Roy Kapur, Disha Patani and Anil Kapoor, is among the most awaited films of 2020. The recent character posters had created a buzz around the film and now the makers have released the first trailer as well. And, going by the trailer, it appears that Malang will be another romantic thriller by Mohit Suri on the lines of Ek Villain (2014).
Though the trailer does not reveal much about the story, it does indicate that there will be a lot of double-crossing and backstabbing. All three lead characters are killers, but each has a different motivation.
The trailer also features some frantic action and chase sequences edited to the EDM-mixed title track. It is said that the film was shot at some picturesque locations and some of those do feature in this short trailer. The beautiful locations and underwater sequences instantly capture our attention.
As always, Disha Patani looks gorgeous and the twist at the end of the trailer certainly piqued our interest about her character.
Though the trailer manages to generate curiosity among cine-goers, one can't help but notice the very generic and staple editing style. Not only the theme but also the editing style of the trailer is reminiscent of Suri's earlier revenge drama Ek Villain.
The beautiful underwater romantic sequences juxtaposed with the underlit hoodie-wearing anti-hero mercilessly beating up goons, everything looks quite repetitive. If nothing else, the makers need to find a new editor for the trailers.
This is the first time Aditya Roy Kapur is playing a full-fledged action hero. The actor has played mainly romantic parts in his films, including his previous collaboration with Suri, Aashiqui 2 (2013). The film also marks the reunion of Suri, Roy Kapur and producer Bhushan Kumar of T-Series after that surprise superhit seven years ago.
Malang is slated for release on 7 February 2020. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
