Maidaan posters: Ajay Devgn kicks off his coaching stint with new look

Ajay Devgn plays Syed Abdul Rahim, the former coach of the Indian national football team in the 1950s and 1960s.

Badlav lane ke liye ek akela bhi kafi hota hai [One man is enough to make a change],’ states the first look poster of Ajay Devgn’s character in Maidaan (2020). The actor plays Syed Abdul Rahim, the man who changed the face of Indian football in the 1950s and 1960s. The period was dubbed the golden era of football for the sport in our nation.

The actor certainly looks the part in the full-length poster of him in costume as Rahim. He kicks a football with an umbrella and leather bag in hand as his role as football coach. The faded, yellow-tinged look of the poster also includes a throwback to the era with an illustrated advertisement for Durphy Radio in the background. It obviously referred to the popular brand, Murphy, changed here for reasons unknown.

A second poster shows Devgn in the pouring rain with his players lined up in front of him. The newspapers in the background don’t speak of his triumph, but rather his loss, touting a period of losses for the Indian football team. It is likely the film will show how Rahim turned the team around.

Actress Priyamani is also part of the cast as Devgn’s wife.

Directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, Maidaan will be released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam on 27 November. The film is produced by Zee Studios and Boney Kapoor.
