Akshay Kumar, Sara Ali Khan, and Dhanush will be part of Aanand L Rai's next directorial venture, Atrangi Re. The film will mark Dhanush's third foray into Hindi cinema after Raanjhanaa (2013). Reports also suggest that Akshay Kumar will have a cameo in the film, rather than a full-fledged role.

Atrangi Re will go on the floors from 1 March, and is scheduled for Valentine's weekend release in February 2021. The film will be Anand L Rai's first directorial venture since the Shah Rukh Khan-Anushka Sharma starrer Zero (2018).

The film will also feature music by AR Rahman. The composer released a snippet of the theme track set to the visuals of the names of the makers and the cast.

Speaking to the daily supplement, Bombay Times, Akshay Kumar said, "I am thrilled to be working with Aanand L Rai, as I have always admired the way he has showcased his stories. When he narrated the film to me, I said ‘yes’ within 10 minutes. It is a challenging character to play, but at the same time, it is such a special role that my heart just couldn’t say ‘no’ to it."

"I will remember it for the rest of my life. My combination with Sara and Dhanush truly makes it true to its title — Atrangi! And I know that Aanand, in his special and simple way of storytelling, will only add magic to it. As I said, my heart just couldn’t let this one go," he added.

Dhanush too had hinted at collaborating with his Raanjhanaa director back in July 2019. However, the actor nor the director had divulged any further details about the project.

This will also be the first collaboration between Akshay, Dhanush, and Sara Ali Khan. Sara is currently awaiting the release of her film alongside Kartik Aaryan, Love Aaj Kal, on 14 February. In spite of the postponement of Bachchan Pandey and Bell Bottom, Akshay Kumar also has Rohit Shetty's Sooryavanshi (2020), with Prithviraj (2020), and Laxmmi Bomb (2020) lined up later this year.
