'Ek chehra gira, jaise mohra gira', lyricist Gulzar states for the Chhapaak title song. The visuals, too, begin with a scream and a fall as Deepika Padukone's Malti is splashed with acid, ruining her face forever, but strengthening her spirit and mind along the way.
The title song hits at the root of the issue, the loss of identity the young acid-attack survivors feel. The score by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy feels slightly muted and allows the power of the words to sink in.
Arijit Singh, proving once again why he is a master at these kind of numbers, emotes beautifully for the title track. He brings in anger when needed and lowers his voice to evoke the necessary sadness as well for the circumstances.
The visuals of the song show Malti's journey as she rejects her status as victim and fights against the system to gain justice for herself, and others like her.
Chhapaak, directed by Meghna Gulzar, is due to be released on 10 January 2020. Watch the song below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
