Bhotbhoti teaser offers glimpses of a mundane world through fantasy gaze

The teaser of Tathagata Mukherjee’s upcoming film Bhotbhoti is filled with visual treats. Bhotbhoti is a modern-day fairy tale love story between a man and a mermaid. The visuals beautifully coincide with the idea of a fantasy world, and which also show that the director has put efforts in offering the audience a wholesome cinematic experience through the content and its presentation.

Featuring theatre actor Rishav Basu and Bibriti Chatterjee, the teaser is filled with images of a mundane world, perceived through a fantasy gaze. Basu, in the film, plays the titular role of Bhotbhoti, who lives near the river and hold special interest in the mysteries under water. He dreams of a love story with a mermaid and his dream turns into a reality when he meets Ariel (Bibriti Chatterjee).

Considering the storyline, the visuals seem to have been composed from the perspective of Bhotbhoti. They not only sum up his world of ideas and dreams but also create an ambience that is sure to engross the audience’s mind.

Some of the frames suggest the lonely yet colourful world of Bhotbhoti and in some of them, he seems to be joyfully indulging in romancing with Ariel. There are also glimpses in which Bhotbhoti’s blood strewn face and escape from a fire, with his love interest are shown.

While the director has purposely chosen to not make his ideas evident in the teaser, the glimpses of struggle, perhaps, suggest the ordeal Bhotbhoti has to go through for following his dreams in a society that forces humans to be conditioned.

Bhotbhoti will reportedly also feature Tathagata and actress Debolina Mukherjee, who also happens to be his wife, in important roles. The film is slated to release this May.
