Following the release last week of Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s Panga (2020), actress Richa Chadha’s work in the film is being hailed as hilarious and spontaneous. Besides the sports film, Chadha will be seen in Shakeela and Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai this year.

The latter is a political satire written and directed by Anubhav Sinha and is due to be released after his next, Thappad (2020). In an interview with Cinestaan.com, Chadha shared an update on the film’s status.

“[Sinha] wants to rethink something about the climax," she said. "It’s a film that he has produced, so there is no hangup with it as such. Like in a book, you want to change a chapter. And because it’s such a huge ensemble cast, he is not able to get everybody together in one room.”

Besides Chadha, the film stars Saurabh Shukla, Pankaj Tripathi, Vinay Pathak, Pavan Malhotra, Divya Dutta, Kumud Mishra, Manoj Pahwa, Dilip Prabhavalkar, Cyrus Broacha, Prateik Babbar and Shriya Pilgaonkar.

Meanwhile, her other film Shakeela: Not A Porn Star is currently in post-production. The actress plays the 1990s Malayalam star in the biopic. The film is expected to be released in a few South Indian languages.

Chadha also plans on turning producer; she has selected her first script, written by a college friend.

“We made our first short film together," she said. "I directed it. It was on Down's syndrome and special adults. Then she went to New York [for studies] and we met after some time, and said, chal karte hain saat mein. Imagine two best friends, students of one class, are reuniting after 10 years and I’m going to produce your film. And I’m not even in it! I love that.”

Panga, which stars Kangana Ranaut and Jassie Gill, was released in theatres on 24 January.
