Bonus song ‘Mic De’: MC Azad voices the struggles of Gashmeer Mahajani in this rap track

Though rap has become a mainstream musical genre due to the success of Gully Boy (2018), it is still not very popular in Marathi film music. Things, though, are about to change with this new rap song from Bonus. A promotional song, it features scenes from the film interjected with scenes specifically shot for this song. We see the narrow gullies with rapper and background dancers doing their usual routine. It is quite unimaginative and repetitive as the setting replicates almost every other rap song. 

Independent rapper MC Azad has sung the rap with music by Rohan-Rohan. Rap is more about the flow than singing and melody. That’s why it is important that the lyrics and the flow are in complete sync, but here on many occasions, the lyrics don’t match the flow and it definitely affects the overall experience. The signature hook line though works well. The smart use of percussions like dholak, along with the EDM (Electronic Dance Music) saves this below average rap.
