Karan Johar's interest in horror seems to have piqued since his last project, Ghost Stories (2020). The makers of the upcoming Bhoot:The Haunted Ship released a new logo theme that offers a twist on the now-familiar Dharma Productions introductory song.
The home of happy endings is getting a plot twist. Welcome to the dark side...a new era begins at @DharmaMovies as we step into the dark allies of the horror genre with #Bhoot: The Haunted Ship. #DharmaGoesDark@apoorvamehta18 pic.twitter.com/aVZNYH7ZRL

The introduction begins with the camera panning through the dark interiors of a ship, to the background of the opening line, Tum Paas Aaye, from the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) title song. The score has traditionally accompanied every Dharma Productions logo since the film. But this eerie twist is an interesting combination, as it points to the changing themes of the production house.
The tagline 'Dharma Goes Dark' is also a hint at the production house taking on some radical changes in the future. The sight of a finger scrawling Dharma Productions onto the steel wall might be scary, but it also hints at a celebration.
The production house completes 40 years this year with its first film, Dostana (1980). Since then, the company has grown to become one of the biggest names in Hindi cinema production. The first major production coming up this year would be the Vicky Kaushal-led Bhoot:The Haunted Ship, with five more lined up later this year.
Directed by Bhanu Pratap Singh, and featuring Vicky Kaushal and Bhumi Pednekar, the film is set to release in theatres on 21 February 2020.
