Remo D'Souza's dance film Street Dancer 3 (2020) had an average opening day with Rs9.50 crore nett, according to the figures at BoxOfficeIndia.com. It is well below the opening day figures of D'Souza's last dance film, ABCD 2 (2015), also starring Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor, which made Rs14 crore nett.
The film's opening day numbers aren't that great at the multiplexes, but seeing that tomorrow is Republic Day, it might get an overall boost as the weekend comes to a close.
The other Friday release, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari's Panga (2020), starring Kangana Ranaut, has opened poorly with only around Rs2 crore. The smaller film, which released on around 1,500 screens, seems to have been lost in between Street Dancer 3 and Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior (2020). It needs a strong pick up over the weekend.
Meanwhile, the historical Tanhaji, directed by Om Raut, inched closer to the Rs200 crore mark. It earned a strong Rs.4.75-5 crore nett on its third Friday despite the new releases, taking its total collection to Rs197 crore nett.
The film is on its way to become the biggest film of actor-producer Ajay Devgn's career. His only Rs200 crore film was Rohit Shetty's comedy Golmaal Again (2017) which made Rs205 crore nett, and if it holds strong in the coming week, especially in Maharashtra, it is likely to cross that mark.
