Arindam Sil wraps up shoot for Maayakumari

The film, starring Rituparna Sengupta and Abir Chatterjee, primarily revolves around the legend of 1940s actress Maya Kumari.

Arindam Sil has wrapped up the shoot for his upcoming film Maayakumari last week on 18 January. The film, celebrating the centenary year of Bengali cinema, features Rituparna Sengupta, Abir Chatterjee, Arunima Ghosh, Rajatava Dutta, Indrasish Roy, Sourav Das, and Anindita Basu in crucial roles.

He also posted a photo on Twitter, announcing, “The warmth of togetherness of our Mayakumari family as we shoot on the last day of our schedule". Fellow filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh also dropped in on the film set on its last day of shoot.

Maayakumari is also a musical and Bickram Ghosh has been lent the responsibility to compose music of it. The film primarily revolves around the legend of Maya Kumari, played by Sengupta and Kanan Kumar (Chatterjee), who formed a hit pair with her in the 1940s. However, she retired at the peak of her career, raising much speculation, to led a reclusive life with her husband Sital Bhattacharya (Dutta), far away from the glamour world.

In the film, filmmaker Soumitra Mallick (Roy) decides to make a film, exploring the reasons behind her disappearance. The film apparently shifts between various time periods. Earlier, in an interview with the newspaper Times of India, Sil praised Sengupta’s performance and said, "We had a scene with Rajatava and Rituparna. It was supposed to be for four seconds in the film, but we took four hours to shoot that as two eras had to be captured in the same frame. I must say Ritu is putting her best foot forward."

Ghosh, who plays Aruna Chowdhury in the film, told Times of India, "This is my third film with Arindamda (Sil). And I always love to share the screen with Ritudi as there is so much to learn from her."
