Addinath Kothare is a known name in Marathi cinema. He is now set to make his debut in Hindi with Kabir Khan’s 83. Kothare will be playing the role of prolific middle-order batsman Dilip Vengsarkar.
The latest poster from the film sees Kothare in character playing an aggressive square cut. The shot and the look are convincing.
Vengsarkar is considered among one of the great batsmen to have emerged from India. He was at the peak of his form in the 1980s, alongside the likes of Sunil Gavaskar and Gundappa Vishwanath, particularly in Test cricket. Vengsarkar scored 17 centuries in his Test career that lasted from 1976 to 1992.
Unfortunately, Vengsarkar could only play two matches in the 1983 World Cup, after he was injured in a league game against the West Indies. He was fit for the semi-final but couldn’t find a place as the team was settled and performing well by then.
Vengsarkar holds the rare record of scoring three succcessive centuries at London’s historic Lord's cricket ground, considered the mecca of cricket. He is the only overseas player to have achieved the feat.
Directed by Kabir Khan, 83 features Ranveer Singh in the role of former India captain and all-rounder Kapil Dev. The film will be released in theatres on 10 April.
