With perhaps the first gay kiss featuring a mainstream star, Ayushmann Khurrana breaks yet another taboo in a hilarious, topical, but wacky new trailer for Hitesh Kewalya's Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan. Featuring Gajraj Rao, Neena Gupta, Jithendra Kumar, the film will release in theatres on 21 February 2020.

Khurrana's Kartik Singh begins the tone of the trailer with the frustrating, but hilarious conversation with an uncle, as to why he decided he is gay. This lack of understanding about homosexuality leads to some funny moments through the trailer. From the helpless father, Gajraj Rao, trying to reform his son to the very filmi mother, Neena Gupta, who decides to take her son's side, the convulsions keep on coming.

Through it all is Khurrana's Kartik declaring his love and fighting for Aman, loud and proud. In fact, he even takes on to wearing the pride flag to the amusement of the people around him. Of course, Gajraj Rao's father does not want his son to walk down that path. So he sets up a marriage, forcing the two to fight for their love. In ways, Kewalya's film turns the common DDLJ (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge) trope in Hindi cinema on its head.

The trailer is funny, with sparkling wit and very filmi lines that will definitely catch the attention of audiences. That attention will be welcome to a story that deals with homosexuality without the veil of nuances or doublespeak. The frank openness with which Khurrana and Jitendra Kumar's lead characters are shown being gay, and the very relatable confusions of Gajraj Rao, Neena Gupta, and the others, seems to be the topical and emotional core around which Kewalya's film will revolve.

Written and directed by Hitesh Kewalya, the film is set to release on 21 February 2020. Watch the trailer below, and let us know if you will be keen to watch the film
