Having no competition last weekend at the box office worked well for the Ajay Devgn-starrer Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior (2020). The film made an excellent collection of Rs47.25 crore nett in its second weekend, as per BoxOfficeIndia.com.
This week’s only release was Jai Mummy Di (2020), starring Sunny Singh Nijjar and Sonallii Seygall. The film went unnoticed by audiences.
Directed by Om Raut, Tanhaji had ended its first week at an impressive Rs115.28 crore nett. After the remarkable second weekend number, the film’s grand total now stands at Rs162.28 crore nett. The film saw a huge jump yesterday (its second Sunday), making Rs21.50 crore nett.
As per our trade sources, the film was made on a budget of Rs150 crore. It has surpassed that number and now has a good chance of reaching the Rs200 crore mark.
So far, only one film starring Ajay Devgn has scored a double century at the box office, and that was Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal Again (2017). If Tanhaji reaches that number, it will be Devgn's first home production to enter the Rs200 crore club, and his second film as an actor.
Meanwhile, the Deepika Padukone-starrer Chappaak (2020) had a poor second weekend, making just Rs3.50 crore nett. The film’s grand total now is Rs29.25 crore nett against a budget of about Rs35 crore.
