Hruta Durgule, known for her roles in TV serials like Phulpakhru and Durva, is making her big screen debut with Ananya. Last week, the mahurat was held at Dagadusheth Halwai Ganapati temple in Pune, Maharashtra.
The film is an adaption of a play by the same name where another TV actress Rutuja Bagwe had played the central character. The story followed a young woman who is leading a very happy life. A gold medalist in commerce, she is preparing for her chartered accountancy exam, and about to get married.
But tragedy strikes and her life takes a turn for the worse. How will she recover from this life-altering event? Will she be able to return to her own happy-go-lucky self? The play had received accolades from critics and audiences alike.
Pratap Phad, who had written and directed the play, is also going to direct the film adaptation. It is said that theatre is actor's medium and film is director's medium, so it will be interesting to see how Pratap Phad adapts his own play into film.
There have not been many examples in recent times where the playwright and director went on to adapt his/her own play. A few names that instantly come to our mind would be Sameer Vidwans who made his directorial debut with Time Please (2013). The film was based on his own play.
Another popular example would be actor-filmmaker Subodh Bhave who directed the musical play Katyar Kaljat Ghusli and later went to adapt the play for the big screen in 2015.
The makers of Ananya have not announced the rest of the cast as yet. Produced by Dream Weaver Entertainment and Ravi Jadhav Films, Ananya will release in 2020.
