With Hindi cinema producing biopics at a breakneck speed, it is often not possible to keep track of all the projects that are announced.
Now, Reliance Entertainment has joined hands with veteran producer Shailendra Singh for two more. The first, titled MS Bitta: Hit-List, is based on the life of India’s most prominent anti-terrorism campaigner Maninderjit Singh Bitta.
Talking about the project, Bitta said, “I have dedicated my whole life to fighting terrorism for my India. I don’t fear any bomb in the world. I only fear ‘political terrorism.’ I am honoured that Shailendra Singh, Priya Gupta and Reliance Entertainment have united to share my story with the world.”
The second film is based on the story of a dance group called Kings United. The group, formed by 20 youngsters from Nalla Sopara, a distant, nondescript suburb of Mumbai, went on to win the World Hip-hop Dance Championship in San Diego, California, in 2015, the first Indian group to win the event.
Kings United went on to win the first prize of US $1 miilion in the American reality television show World Of Dance last year.
Tentatively titled The Kings, this film will tell the story of the dancers' struggle and their journey from gully to glory.
Talking about the movie, Kings United founder Suresh Mukund said, “Our journey has been full of trials and tribulations, victory and glory. But we had a dream and the only thing we knew to do was to keep chasing that dream.
"We believe that Shailendra Singh truly understands our story and can translate it onto film. Now that Reliance Entertainment has come on board, we are even more excited to embark upon this new journey with them."
Shailendra Singh, who has produced over 70 feature films so far, said of his latest ventures, “I am inspired to make biopics and films on true events that celebrate India, build Brand India, and inspire young India, the youngest population on the planet.
"The biopics on the life of MS Bitta and Kings United are just the sparks I have been waiting for with which to light a new fire in 'Bollywood'. Building on my legacy of 70-odd movies as a creative producer, making films for young India is my new innings in filmmaking.”
