The trailer of Imtiaz Ali’s new Love Aaj Kal was launched today and has made heads turn. It features the fresh pairing of Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan. And at the trailer launch, director Imtiaz Ali hinted at the possibility of yet another film in the franchise, saying “all Love Aaj Kal films will be monumental”.
On being prodded about the possibility of taking the franchise forward, Imtiaz Ali said, “I feel this story is a very franchise-able idea. I made another film with the same title because after 10 years, I felt that the basis on which I made the first film has completely changed. Things have become new. And I got to say a new story on the same theme.”
The filmmaker also said he and producer Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films had discussed the possibility of backing a third film in the Love Aaj Kal franchise. “I and Dinu [producer Dinesh Vijan] were talking that we can take this idea forward. If, after some years, we feel that the process of relationships has changed further and there is a possibility of a new story, then we will try to tell another story,” he said.
The first Love Aaj Kal film was released in 2009 and starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Rishi Kapoor. Coincidentally, the second film sees Khan’s daughter from first wife Amrita Singh play the female lead.
Love Aaj Kal is set for release in theatres on Valentine's Day this year.
