Love Aaj Kal trailer: Kartik Aaryan, Sara Ali Khan, Arushi Sharma explore complexities of love and relationships

The Imtiaz Ali love story echoes its predecessor Love Aaj Kal (2009) and tracks two vastly different couples separated by time.

Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali re-examines the themes of his 2009 feature Love Aaj Kal with a newer cast, through the similar lens of love and relationships. While Love Aaj Kal (2009) featured Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone, this new version, Love Aaj Kal (2020) features Khan’s daughter Sara Ali with Kartik Aaryan and Arushi Sharma.

The nearly three-minutes long trailer is packed with a lot of drama. Kartik is seen in a double role, set in the 1990s and present day, mirroring Saif Ali Khan's double-act in Love Aaj Kal (2009). While Sara is the modern career woman, Zoe, who isn’t ready to sacrifice her career for a relationship, Kartik’s present day avatar Veer is possessive about her.

In the version set in the past as well, Kartik’s character comes off as a bit of a stalker. Newcomer Arushi Sharma too has an impressive presence on screen, from what we’ve seen so far. Both Zoe and Veer come across as volatile and passionate, but it is unclear if this modern update of Ali’s 2009 film will have a different ending.

The film also will be recreating ‘Twist’ and ‘Aahun Aahun’, both popular songs featured on Saif and Padukone in the earlier film.

Love Aaj Kal, written and directed by Imtiaz Ali, is due to be released on Valentine’s Day, 14 February. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
