The Ajay Devgn-starrer Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior (2020) succeeded in keeping its momentum high even on its first Monday. The film, directed by Om Raut, made a phenomenal Rs13.50 crore nett on the day, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.
What is more impressive is that yesterday’s numbers are close to the film's opening day collection of Rs14.50 crore nett. This doesn't happen often, and is a clear indication that the film is receiving positive word-of-mouth from the audience. Tanhaji had finished the first weekend at a decent Rs59.75 crore nett.
As per our trade sources, Tanhaji was made on a budget of around Rs150 crore and so far the film has made a total domestic box-office collection of Rs73.25 crore nett. But the film will need to continue this positive journey through the week and the second weekend if it is to be a winner.
On the other hand, the Deepika Padukone-starrer Chhapaak, which was released along with Tanhaji, recorded a low collection of Rs2 crore nett yesterday. The Meghna Gulzar film is based on the life of acid-attack survivor Lakshmi Agarwal and has so far made Rs20 crore nett at the domestic box office. The film's budget is estimated at Rs35 crore, so Chhapaak, too, will need to do well through the week and on the second weekend.
Meanwhile, the Christmas 2019 release Good Newwz, starring Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani, has made Rs10 crore nett in its third week so far, taking its overall total to an impressive Rs185.62 crore nett.
